Head of the CARE Department, Tihange Nuclear Power Plant
Christophe Berbiers is Head of the CARE Department at the Tihange Nuclear Power Plant, where he oversees nuclear safety, radiation protection, environmental matters, occupational health and safety, emergency preparedness, fire safety, and physical protection. He also serves as Head of the Physical Control Department and Head of the Internal Service for Prevention and Protection at Work.
A civil electromechanical engineer and senior nuclear professional, Christophe Berbiers has more than two decades of experience in nuclear operations, safety engineering, independent nuclear oversight, regulatory affairs, and organisational leadership. His previous roles include Nuclear Independent Corporate Officer, Head of Safety Projects and site Design Authority, Senior Design Engineer, and Deputy Head of Operations at Tihange 3.
He holds postgraduate qualifications in nuclear engineering, occupational health and safety and general management and has been accredited by the Belgian Federal Agency for Nuclear Control as a Class I Qualified Expert in Physical Control since 2010. He also held a Reactor Operator qualification for Tihange 3 from 2003 to 2025.
His international experience includes participation in OSART and WANO missions, peer reviews, and workshops across Europe and Asia, with a focus on engineering support, equipment reliability, design change effectiveness, operations, and accident management.
Beyond the nuclear sector, Christophe Berbiers previously served as an international assistant football referee and now contributes to the development of refereeing as a referee observer. He also practises fencing at amateur level.

He began his career within the Nuclear Measurement Business Unit of the Areva Group before joining the National Institute for Radioelements (IRE) in Belgium.
For more than 15 years, he has specialized in the production and global distribution of medical radioisotopes. During this time, he held Business Development leadership positions, gaining extensive experience in the international supply chain and worldwide distribution of radioactive materials for medical applications.
For the past five years, he has served as General Manager of Full-Life Technology Europe, where he is leading the development of a new radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Belgium. His teams are also responsible for the global supply chain of radioisotopes for clinical trials and for coordinating the delivery of radiopharmaceuticals to clinical investigation sites around the world.
In addition, he previously served as a Board Member of a company specialized in the transport of radioactive materials.

Terrestrial Environmental Radiochemistry Laboratory Head
Dr. Jonathan Burnett is a scientist specializing in the detection of environmental radioactivity from natural, civil and military sources. He is the current Laboratory Head of the Terrestrial Environmental Radiochemistry (TERC) Laboratory at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Throughout his career, a focus has been on the detection of ultra trace radionuclide signatures in support of a wide range of nuclear security programs. This has led to the development of a variety of advanced gamma-spectrometry systems for low-level radionuclide detection, including next-generation Compton suppression, cosmic veto and multi-dimensional gamma-spectrometry systems.
